Clarence Heyward: Solo Exhibition

View works in the exhibition

July 25-August 12, 2025. Clarence Heyward’s soft and elegant painting style contrasts sharply with the challenging subject matter of his artworks. Heyward addresses social themes including the historical struggles Black people have faced regarding swimming and discrimination, violence against Black men, and the experience of being a father to Black children in contemporary American society.

Several institutions have recently acquired Heyward’s works, including the Minneapolis Institute of Art, Ackland Art Museum, North Carolina Museum of Art, and Nasher Museum of Art. He has also received the Brightwork Fellowship at Anchorlight Studios and completed a residency at Alfred University. This exhibition at Turner Carroll showcases Heyward’s latest series of paintings.
