Landfall Press, a highly regarded institution in the field of printmaking, selected Turner Carroll Gallery to preserve and place its archive and to oversee its legacy. Turner Carroll is now the guardian of Landfall's lithography inventory, books, artist correspondence, and print documentation: an archive spanning over 50 years. Landfall Press Iconic Prints is presented by CONTAINER, and will celebrate our acquisition of over five decades of artistic achievement by Landfall Press.
Founded in 1970 in Chicago by the visionary printer Jack Lemon, Landfall Press rose to prominence as one of the nation's foremost printmaking studios, and made a lasting impact on the contemporary art scene. In the 1970s Jack Lemon made a strategic decision to establish Landfall Press in Chicago as new printmaking workshops surfaced on both the East and West Coasts. This bold move effectively transformed the Midwest into a dynamic hub for printmaking. Consequently, the studio attracted artists nationwide, and contributed significantly to the diversification and enrichment of the American printmaking landscape.
Landfall Press built a distinguished legacy throughout its history through pioneering collaborations with renowned artists including luminaries such as Judy Chicago, Chuck Close, Robert Indiana, and Kara Walker. The studio also nurtured partnerships with emerging international talents like Jiha Moon, Nusra Latif Qureshi, and Fatima Ronquillo. The synergy between Landfall Press and its artists is marked by a dynamic exchange of ideas and inventive techniques with artists infusing fresh perspectives and expressive possibilities in diverse media.
With a 50-year history marked by innovation, collaboration, and a steadfast commitment to advancing the boundaries of contemporary printmaking, Landfall Press has earned its remarkable legacy. CONTAINER is honored to present this extraordinary collection to the art-collecting public for the first time.
